Settlement Planning Education Center (SPEC) is an online education provider. At SPEC, we are committed to bringing you high-quality educational materials in an easy-to-use environment.  We provide online education materials necessary to the settlement planning profession. Joseph Tombs has twenty-seven years of experience in various aspects of law and financial planning. He started his career as a tax and estate planning attorney. Joe has served on the full-time faculties of four universities: University of Georgia, University of Louisiana, Georgia State University, and Texas Tech University and as an adjunct professor at University of Southern Virginia, Kaplan University, and Lubbock Christian University. Joe has served as an Associate Vice President of First Colony Life Insurance Company and Director of Advanced Marketing at GE Financial Assurance.

Greg is an attorney, Certified Financial Planner, and settlement planner with Amicus Settlement Planners, LLC. He is also a partner in the law firm Tombs Maxwell LLP and co-founded Amicus Settlement Planners in 2004. His practice specializes in special-needs planning, government benefit planning, and financial planning for settling plaintiffs. He is a past president of the Society of Settlement Planners, a national organization advocating for plaintiff’s rights in the settlement planning process. Greg is a member of the Utah Association for Justice, and the American Association for Justice. Greg is a 2003 graduate of the Texas Tech University School of Law.

Jeremy Babener has advised clients and counsel across the country on tax issues in litigation and settlement. He chairs the Legal Committee of the Society of Settlement Planners and regularly writes and speaks on the subject. He also consults for many types of businesses related to litigation and financial advice, helping to create novel and practical arrangements to better serve the settlement planning community. He is Special Tax Counsel at law firm Lane Powell and President of Structured Consulting. He previously served as a fellow in the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Tax Policy. Daniel is responsible for the administration, design, and maintenance of the SPEC website, and he is the main contact for students taking courses at SPEC. He graduated summa cum laude from the Creighton University School of Law. Prior to law school, Daniel worked with Amicus Financial Advisors, LLC and Amicus Settlement Planners, LLC. Daniel received his B.S. from Brigham Young University, where he graduated magna cum laude from the Marriott Business School of Management, with an emphasis in finance.
